A Scalable, Pragmatic Approach to Carbon Management

Reducing carbon emissions alone is not enough—we must also remove legacy carbon from the atmosphere. Climate experts agree: carbon management is essential to reaching net-zero by midcentury. Our carbon management strategy is grounded in reliable biomass energy infrastructure and carbon capture and storage to enable safe, permanent carbon sequestration at scale.

The BiCRS Process

Through capturing carbon from biomass and storing it underground, we create negative-emission energy that directly removes carbon from the atmosphere. It starts with converting sustainably sourced biomass to a clean energy where carbon is removed from the atmosphere. Since BiCRS is a tech-based solution, we’re able to accurately measure and verify the amount of CO₂ removed.
Step 1

Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through photosynthesis
Step 2

As trees decompose, the carbon naturally returns back to the atmosphere
Step 3

We separate carbon from biomass at our bioenergy plant. The biomass from forestry, sawmills, and other wood waste are turned into carbon-free electricity and steam.
Step 4

The carbon is captured from the bioenergy plant exhaust, then cleaned and compressed into a liquid.
Step 5

The carbon is transported to a nearby facility and pumped underground for durable carbon storage.

Biomass Carbon Removal and Storage vs. Direct Air Capture Technology

BiCRS stands out at the forefront of carbon management strategies with decades of proven success. Direct Air Capture (DAC) is an emerging strategy, but it’s still experimental. Here are the key differences that sets BiCRS apart:

Biomass Carbon Removal and Storage
Removes CO₂ from the atmosphere using biomass and chemical industry technology

Proven technology with 80+ years of use

Extensive performance guarantees

Extensive cost guarantees

Uses biomass as the energy generator

Repurposes existing power plants

Qualifies for DOE loan funding
Direct Air Capture Technology
Removes  CO₂ from the atmosphere using mechanical fans and filters

Experimental technology with few large-scale plants

No performance guarantees

Costs up to $1,000/ton

Large electric consumer

Large land requirement

Requires large DOE grant funding
