Richard Mukhtar, Chief Operating Officer

Richard (Rich) Mukhtar, Chief Operating Officer, has an extensive energy industry background in developing and operating power projects. In addition to leading all aspects in operational excellence across the national fleet, Rich is spearheading a Carbon Management business for NorthStar including adding carbon capture and sequestration to its existing biomass portfolio.

Rich previously served as Head of Asset Management, Global Power for Abu Dhani National Energy Company (TAQA) and Managing Director, TAQA New World, its North American subsidiary. In that role, Rich led operations and business development for its 16 gigawatt of power and 750 million imperial gallons water desalination/per day portfolios throughout 11 countries. Rich also has served as a director on numerous industry companies worldwide.

Rich holds a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Walsh College in Troy, Michigan, and has completed an executive program in positive leadership at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Rich and his wife sponsor and fund an annual scholarship for a high school graduate that exhibits generosity and family values.
