NorthStar Clean Energy operates a robust portfolio of thermal generation assets designed for high availability, performance, and flexibility. We operate approximately 1,000 megawatts of natural gas power plants and 128 megawatts of biomass facilities. These plants provide consistent baseload and dispatchable power to meet the needs of modern energy consumers.
How It Works
Biomass
Our biomass plants generate renewable energy by combusting nonmarketable organic waste, such as forestry waste (tree tops/branches/stumps), bark, sawdust, and tree trimmings, that would otherwise end up in landfills or left on the forest floor. This process turns waste into a valuable resource. Most of the biomass fuel comes from forestry waste.

Natural Gas
NorthStar's natural gas facilities use both simple and combined-cycle units to generate steam and electricity efficiently. For example, our Dig facility captures blast furnace gas from a neighboring steel mill, converting industrial byproducts into useful energy with reduced emissions.
